We were up early. Our flight was 7:40am, which meant we had to be on the shuttle bus at 5:20, which was about as early as it started. We were already reserved, it was just a matter of getting downstairs.

Apparently, we weren’t the only ones. There were many, many more people. All of them wondering where the hell the shuttle bus was. The bus, and it’s driver, were both MIA.

This led the poor desk clerk to literally vanish. She had a crowd of upset Canadians (which, let’s be real, weren’t that upset, it was mostly that none of us had coffee), nervous about making their early-morning flight.

5:20. 5:30. 5:40. 5:45 a guy arrives very quickly in a black SUV, tears in the front door with a wave and a smile, zips into the back, zips back out, climbs into the SUV, and roars away.

Baffled, we all wondered if it just made more sense to just rent–

The shuttle bus roared into the driveway, driven by the same guy. The story, which soon evolved, was that the “driver had not been called”. We were left to debate the rest amongst ourselves. Fortunately, we had already pre-organized ourselves into the departing times, so it was a quick load and go. The driver ignored all the speed limit signs. We were barely out of the van three minutes after getting in, and he was gone.

Checking in was relatively quick. Security was a joke.

We got breakfast from the stands as they opened. We spent a good 30 minutes roaming through the Cafe Britt store, largely because we like their stuff, but also because we had time to kill. Especially since the arriving flight from Calgary was … delayed. Not substantially, just laughably.

We were only slightly delayed leaving.

I don’t know how to feel leaving this time. Last time, it was a modicum of relief, as we’d had sunstroked kids. The time before that, I was relieved to be going home. This time? I think it’s more a sense of completeness. I’ve done Costa Rica. I like it, but I’ve done it. If Alex wants to go back, I might even suggest she take Rebecca and go without me. I dunno.

Time will tell, as always. But for now, I’m glad to be home. (Oh, and Monkey picked us up. She had a lot of fun without us, apparently.)
