Here’s the problem when you merge six companies together: you end up with too many people if you don’t figure out how to keep them all busy.
This company, regardless of whatever name they want to use, does a poor job of doing that, though. We structured too top-heavy (we have literal dozens of people, myself included, with a title of Vice President or higher) and a near-zero sales force. New business is hard to get as it is if you don’t have dedicated people to drum up new work to keep people busy.
Calgary got hit hard. Although there were layoffs elsewhere, we lost two more people out of an ever-dwindling collection of staff. Venture was ~60 people when the merger occurred. I think we’re down to 10. The only group that’s hired is Finance (and we have too many of them, IMO).
Out of ~15-20 Account and PM staff, we’re down to one. 35 Creatives down to 4 (one of whom lives in the Crowsnest, the other’s contract allows him to never come into the office). Creative went down to 4 today as we lost Aly (Venture’s Queen of SquareSpace and the only person in Creative who genuinely understood Digital) and Heather (a 9+ year veteran who ran the Studio, made redundant and heaved out the door). Another day, another kick in the crotch to the Calgary office.
And zero word to the company that this has happened. Because this company can’t communicate for shit. Which is a constant issue.
I need out. Badly.
