I don’t even know where to start with this one. Well, maybe I do. The company is failing, and it’s become clear to everyone.

A couple of weeks ago, the annual merit increases came out, along with some promotions. Some folks got increases – typically 3-4%, from what I gather – some did not (for various reasons). Given the rise in the cost of living, it raised a help of eyebrows: people were expecting quite a bit more.

Officially, the company is doing fine. This was repeated to us more than once. But…

Senior management (which I’m curiously one of, even though I’m not) was told that one of the other announcements would be a change to a 40 hour week, standardizing with what Argyle had; both Venture and Revolve were 35 hours, Brightworks was 37.5. And the difference was going to go unpaid.

That seems to have broken Calgary. More billable hours, less pay. We’ve already lost Carley and Nikki. Mark is now expecting me to quit and wants to go wherever I do (which, sniff, is pretty awesome to hear). Several people are already talking about not signing their EAs. At the Stampede Party tonight, after several beers, Jared told me that he’s working an angle with McCann which could have him out the Friday I’m back in the office.

And yes, I’m looking. Not actively per se, but definitely beyond merely casual. Something’s gone rotten and I don’t want to leave on anyone’s terms but my own.
