At this time of the year, in the marketing industry, it’s usually mayhem: everyone trying to get their sales up as the year winds down, get holiday specials out the door, and my personal favourite: holy cow, we still haven’t spent $150,000 of our budget and we’ve only got 3 weeks to do it.
(I’m not saying I’ve seen it all, but I’ve certainly been in this business long enough.)
But not this year. This year is quiet. Eerily quiet. Wrong quiet. And everyone’s noticed it.
I don’t know why it’s like this. I have my suspicions, though it’s turning into uninformed speculation, which never ends well. Hopefully January will be better, and certainly what I’m hearing from others, it seems possible.
If not, next year is going to be painful in many ways.
