No guarantees on going back

I hate to say it, but I saw this coming. When I signed the contract that put me down here in Costa Rica, there was a part of me that was yelling: “But what about when we come back?”

Well, Jason just answered that question. While I was originally told that we’d come back to the same position and salary, it’s now clear that all bets are off. He’s been told the same thing, though I suspect he’s in better shape (politically) than myself.

But I’m not really surprised.

It’s only business, I know. And with the economy the way it is, there’s little a company can do to guarantee something. Frankly, I’m an expensive liability, and since there’s no legal documentation to suggest otherwise, there’s lots of room for interpretation. Including my future.

I guess, if nothing else, this means I need to start considering alternatives…
