  1. Let’s see……
You’re about to become a Dad for the first time….. You’re having feelings of excitement, terror, excitement, worry, excitement, ‘holy crap what have I gotten myself into’, excitement….
    Guess what – you’re normal 🙂

  2. I second the objection to the ‘normal’ statement.
I am sending some positive birthday thoughts to you and Alex. I think August 18th would make a smashing birthday for Baby Sowrey, though I may be biased about that particular date.

  3. Okay, okay – normal here is relative 🙂
The impending new dad anxiety is “normal” as in most impending new dad’s experience it. A close friend of ours only slept about 2 hours a night for the last 3 weeks of his wife’s pregnancy. Their daughter started sleeping through the night at about 3 weeks of age, – so he continued not sleeping – getting up every hour or so to check on her for the next several weeks.

  4. That doesn’t sound like “normal”, that sounds like “paranoia”. And while that might have been Def Leppard’s best album (at least by those who like the band), I don’t really listen to DL anymore, so not something I’m terribly into.
And the only reason I think I’d be up all night to check on my child isn’t so much worry … I think it would be to watch in wonderment. (I kinda did this with our new washing machine. Front loaders are so hypnotic.)

  5. It won’t be wonderment necessarily – more to check that your child is still breathing…I soooooooooo can’t wait for you to be a father!

  6. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic/uncaring/stupid here, but I really hope I’m not checking breathing all the time. That’s the kind of worry I really don’t want to get sucked into…
