T minus 206 days until W-Day.
And so the new year begins — the last of the second millennium, Ado Domini (or Common Era, if you prefer). It’s been a rough year for us, with many events having rocked our little world time and time again. Here’s the brief synopsis of the past year:
- Stayed in a dingy hotel in Victoria
- Got to know more of the Great Hospitals of British Columbia
- Saw Star Wars: Episode 1, and loved it
- Saw The Matrix, and loved that too
- Thought the remake of “Psycho” was assinine, and refused to see it
- Travelled on the Royal Hudson
- Got another year older
- Finally fixed the wedding date (26 August 2000)
- Saw my relatives in Kelowna
- Saw my cousins Pam and Darren
- Went to a wedding in Penticton
- Visited Naramata … twice
- Visited my relatives in Calgary
- Visited Nanaimo too many times to count
- Visited Victoria once
- Went to Calgary for a weekend
- Went to Kelowna for a weekend … twice
- Went to Ontario for a week
- Went to Algonquin Park
- Visited with my friends in Acton
- Visited the University of Waterloo
- Visited Seattle twice
- Went to Lyndon
- Went to Banff (Bamf!)
- Went to the Royal Tyrell Museum
- Went to Drumheller
- Went to Rathtrevor Beach
- Went to Ucluelet and Tofino
- Went to Long Beach
- Saw my family
- Spent a few days in a cottage in Huntsville
- Visited Arkipelago, my old workplace
- Played on Radical’s softball team … we placed last
- Got beaned in the nose with a softball
- Nearly broke my toe
- Moved to a new apartment downtown
- Got a raise and recognition in my job
- Saw Alanis Morisette in concert
- Saw Spirit of the West in concert
- Saw Colin James in concert
- Travelled on the new Fast Ferries, and hated it
- Started plans to move to Nanaimo in a few years
- Watched Wayne Gretzky play play his last game
- Predicted that the NHL would retire #99 from every team
- Predicted that 31 December 1999 would be a very dull day
- Fell in love with Stepho’s Greek restaurant
- Welcomed Jane home from Europe
- Went on my first business trip
- Saw Flying Fish at Pikes’ Place Market
- Saw the original Starbucks … had a hot chocolate
- Went on a tour of Underground Seattle
- Replaced the muffler on my car after it fell off
- Baby sat several times
- Ate seafood regularly and liked it
- Went to Playdium several times
- Shopped at Granville Island more times than I can remember
- Complained about the weather repeatedly
- Almost moved into a condo in Burnaby, but had to back out
- Drank many pints of beer
- Saw a Hoodoo
- Started many arguments with Rogers Cable; I hate them
- I opened an ING account
- Realised it’s been 10 years since I visited the Soviet Union
- Became a wine connoisseur
- Lost Allison’s sunglasses
- Went to the Comox Airshow
- Took pictures of the Skyhawks
- Went to the PNE with Ethan and Lorna
- Was informed that I must refer to Mr. and Mrs. Collins as Ethan and Lorna
- Held a surprise party for Allison
- Experienced a great deal of stress
- Had fun
- And of course, missed my family and friends dearly
Hopefully, this year will bring a lot of happiness and success, not only for me but also for Allison, and my friends and family. I hope to see all of you this year, at some point.
